Why not another oddball rotorcraft from a self described rotor nut: I give you the Bell Model 533! This was the first rotorcraft to break 200 knots (in 1964) and then the first to break 250 mph (in 1965). As far as I know, it was also the first to break 300 mph when it roared all the way to 275 knots (316 mph) in 1969.
You still think the Eurocopter X-3 is amazing today? I'm still waiting for it to break Bell's 44 year old speed record...
